For many years, venezuelan economy has been characterized by an high magnitude inflationary process, which has always negatively influenced the purchasing power of its population. In addition, poverty has always been a major problem for this south american nation, given the high levels of poverty. We have observed that both variables usually show a similar behavior annually, that’s why, through this study, we will demonstrate that in effect, there is a positive relationship between both phenomenons. To do so, we will carry out an analysis of the venezuelan economic structure, as well as an econometric model in which we will study the correlation between some of the main variables of the country, including the variables under study; and thus, corroborate our hypothesis about a relationship directly between the price index and the poverty levels of a country.
